Montgomery Consulting started as an advisor to public utility companies and other organizations active in community and economic development. Through that work, we began also working with local economic development agencies many of which are nonprofit organizations. While Fundraising and Nonprofit Management consulting for all types of nonprofit organizations is now our primary business, we remain active in the community and economic development space by doing selected projects, helping the public understand the economic impact of major projects, and producing Michigan Multipliers every other year.

Economic Impact Studies – We help clients to both estimate and understand the positive economic impact of new developments as well as the negative economic impact of plant and facility closings. 

Feasibility Studies – We provide clients with guidance as to the economic feasibility of potential development projects.  In fact, we did the market demand and funding components of the feasibility study for the adaptive reuse of Jackson (MI) Union Depot.  A photo of the Depot appears at the upper left.

Retention Surveys – We have helped local economic development organizations to better understand the needs and desires of companies doing business in their communities through surveys of local business owners and managers. 

Strategic and Program Planning – We help organizations plan for their future through an approach to strategic planning that combines the fact-based analyses of the classic corporate strategic plan with the strong consensus-building orientation of traditional nonprofit organization plans.
