Fundraising and Nonprofit Organization Clients

Grosse Pointe War Memorial
-- We are currently working with this eastside organization, sometimes referred to as "Alger House," on conceptual planning.

Champions of Wayne
 -- We are currently working with this academic enrichment program serving Wayne Memorial High School in Wayne, Michigan.

Save the Bomber Plant! -- We recently concluded an engagement with the Michigan Aerospace Foundation.   We helped this client to conduct a successful first phase of their ongoing campaign that allowed them to purchase preserve part of the historic World War II Bomber Plant at Willow Run near Ypsilanti, Michigan.  Later phases of this continuing effort will fund the redevelopment of the building to to become the National Museum of Aviation and Technology at Historic Willow Run and also support the creation of new exhibits and programs.

 H. Wright Museum of African American History -- We work periodically with the leadership of this leading museum to refine program concepts into a fully-articulated plans and proposals.

Girl Scouts of Northern Indiana-Michiana Council -- We did a development assessment and fundraising "tune up" for this major Girl Scout council serving 22 counties  in Indiana and Michigan. 

College of Management, Lawrence Technological University -- We worked with a business school contained within a major private university to develop a plan for new fundraising and supporting activities to be conducted at the college level.

Zaman International -- We work periodically with this Dearborn, Michigan-based humanitarian organization to build fundraising capacity as it prepares for the next stage in its growth and development.

Venture Outdoors -- We conducted board training with this Pittsburgh, PA organization that encourages everyone to participate in outdoor recreational activities. Venture Outdoors promotes the Pittsburgh region's unique natural amenities, highlights it's excellent quality of life, fosters a greater appreciation for the environment, inspires an active lifestyle and creates a shared sense of community. 

Northville Educational Foundation -- We worked with this newer public schools foundation as it expanded and refined its fundraising efforts.

Friends of the Dearborn Animal Shelter -- We worked with this organization to create a clearer and more compelling fundraising case statement

Lutheran Social Services of Michigan Foundation -- We conducted board training for this group.

Enterprise Group of Jackson -- We helped the Board of this agency build the confidence and skills necessary to re-energize the agency's funding renewal campaign. (This was an expansion of what was originally an economic development project.)

Temple Emanu-El -- We worked with this Reform congregation to establish a stronger culture of giving initiative in conjunction with its 60th anniversary.  This project was a collaboration with the Remington Group. 

I.M.A.M. - USA -- We helped this organization develop a case for funding with which to address some facility issues. 

Wayne State University -- We provided analytical, strategy development and drafting assistance to a major Remington Group project with Wayne State University.

Nonprofit Organizations Served through Subcontracting

From 2000 through early 2011, we offered fundraising services primarily as a subcontractor to The Remington Group which remains a strategic ally.  During that time, we worked on planning and implementing more than $1 billion in fundraising activity including major efforts conducted by: Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Medical Center, Detroit Science Center, Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Focus: HOPE, The Henry Ford, Lawrence Technological University, Make It Right Foundation NOLA (New Orleans, LA), Matrix Human Services, Motown Historical Museum, National Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial (Washington DC), Project Lead the Way (Clifton Park, NY), University of Michigan Alumni Association, Walter P. Chrysler Museum, Wayne State University, and the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.

Community and Economic Development Projects

Current and Recent ED/CD Projects

DeSoto Economic Development Corporation -- We are currently working on some economic impact studies for this Dallas County, Texas local economic development organization.

Otsego County Economic Alliance -- In early 2013, we facilitated a strategic planning session for some of this local agency's key stakeholders. 

Rural Development Assets Project
-- In 2012, we completed work on a new information product for the CMS Energy Economic Development Department on the economic development assets of small towns and rural areas.

Feasibility Component, Jackson Passenger Station Development Study (subcontract from Quinn Evans Architects) -- We analyzed the financial feasibility of redeveloping Jackson's former Michigan Central Station as an intermodal transit facility that would include commercial tenants and local and long distance bus service as well as Amtrak. Our work appears as Appendix V of the report here.

Goal Setting, Village of Fowlerville -- We worked with the council and manager of this mid-Michigan community as they set goals for their future activities.

Michigan Economic Developers Association
 -- We provided strategic planning assistance to this Michigan professional association. 

County Economic Strategy, County of Jackson Michigan -- 
As a subcontractor to the Enterprise Group of Jackson, we provided basic economic analysis, strategic insight and presentation assistance to the Jackson County Board of Commissioners' effort to craft a county-level economic strategy. Fundraising Training, Michigan State Housing Development Authority -- In 2011, we presented basic training in relationship-based fundraising to leaders of local ally agencies at MSHDA's annual resource fair for housing counseling programs. 

Longer Term ED/CD Projects

Business Retention Studies (various communities) -- In the 1990s, we worked with several Michigan utility companies and rural electric cooperatives to successfully conclude business retention studies for nine Michigan regions, counties and communities.

Economic Development Grant Program, Hudson-Webber Foundation -- In the late 1980s, we helped this Detroit-based foundation to refine its grant-making program for economic development organizations and then helped administer that program for nearly a decade.

Target Industries Selection (various clients) -- We have worked with Consumers Energy, DTE Energy, the former Michigan First (now part of MEDC) and the Livonia Chamber of Commerce to select the best industries on which to focus their primary, pro-active business attraction efforts.

Field Assessment of Detroit Empowerment Zone for US HUD (subcontract from Wayne State University) -- For nearly five years, we worked with WSU researchers on the Detroit component of an assessment of the national empowerment zone program commissioned by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
